My own relationship with this storied château spans several decades, allowing me a profound connection with its historical tapestry.

A Year Distinct in Memory and Merit

The year 1989 remains etched in vini-cultural history for Bordeaux's exceptional balance of heat and rainfall, resulting in wines that exhibit both the vigour of ripe fruit and the subtlety of elegant structure. It was a vintage that spoke of fortune's favour, its harmony resonating through the grapes nurtured in the vineyards of Chateau Cantemerle.

Investing in Liquid Nobility

For investors with a penchant for wines that blend lucrative potential with ethereal taste, the 1989 vintage of Chateau Cantemerle beckons. The wine unfolds on the palate with discernible maturity; notes of cassis and faded rose unfurl gracefully amidst whispers of truffle and an autumnal, earthy finish. Adorned with gentle tannins and a beautifully resolved acidity, it provides insight into the evolution one might anticipate from this venerable estate.

In essence, the '89 offers an olfactory and gustatory symphony that has reached its crescendo without losing its energy and surprise —a remarkable achievement indeed for a wine of this pedigree and age.

A perfect success for Cantemerle and one of the most monumental wines of the last 40 years, the 1989 Cantemerle remains a dense ruby color with plenty of purple in its mid-section. The wine has the classic Cantemerle noise of flowers intermixed with black currants, blackberries, and mineral. Surprisingly opulent, lush, and very fragrant, this wine has supple texture and a gorgeous finish. Not a blockbuster by any means, but it is silky and beautifully pure. Anticipated maturity: Now-2010. Last tasted, 9/02.
