2010 Chateau Rauzan-Segla from Chateau Rauzan-Segla, Margaux, Bordeaux

The 2010 vintage in Bordeaux is frequently spoken of with a hushed reverence, and the 2010 Chateau Rauzan-Segla from the storied Margaux appellation exemplifies why. A year graced by benevolence from the weather gods fashioned an excellent growing season, marked by a perfect balance of sunshine and appropriate rainfall. This serendipitous climate dance resulted in grapes that achieved full phenolic maturity, endowing the 2010 Chateau Rauzan-Segla with a kaleidoscope of complexities.

A Vintage that Commands Attention

Subtleties abound in the consummate interplay of structure and elegance within this vintage. Its striking balance between muscular tannins and ripe, juicy fruit had early whispers among oenophiles suggesting comparison to the legendary 2005, and now with some bottle maturity, I dare say it stands shoulder to shoulder in quality. This particular offering from Chateau Rauzan-Segla encapsulates the best of Margaux's terroir—velvety textures and a profound depth.

The Exquisite Maturation of a Marvellous Year

A decade into its life, the 2010 Chateau Rauzan-Segla has unfurled like a rarely seen bloom. As it matures—gathering nuance, composure and depth with each passing year—it presents investors with an opportune cornerstone for their collection. Noted for its vibrant bouquet that weaves together dark currants, pencil shavings and subtle floral hints, this wine is an anthology of elegance intertwined with tenacious vitality.

The lush palate builds on this aromatic mélange offering dense layers of blackberry and cassis, enlivened by a refreshing minerality that speaks eloquently of its Margaux heritage. As one might expect from such an outstanding year, the finish is long, reverberating with graceful echoes of fruit and terroir that linger assuringly on the senses.

In summary, the 2010 Chateau Rauzan-Segla stands firm as one of the embodiments of fine wine investment potential. It boasts all the hallmarks that astute collectors and connoisseurs prize: the pedigree of a standout vintage, renowned provenance, and a maturation trajectory that continues to promise further unfolding layers of complexity over time. This particular vintage is not merely a beverage; it’s an experience—a testament to what nature and nurturing can co-create in the hands of masters like those at Chateau Rauzan-Segla.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Rauzan-Ségla is youthfully reticent and closed to begin, slowly unfurling to offer notions of underbrush, black truffles, smoked meats and tar over a core of baked black cherries, prunes and crème de cassis plus touches of iron ore and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, concentrated and jam-packed with savory/earthy fruit, it has a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing with great length and expression. The blend this year is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, harvested between September 23rd and October 19th, at an average yield of 37 hectoliters per hectare. It was aged for 18 months in French oak, 60% new. The alcohol is 14%, and the pH is 3.52.
