2013 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin, Pomerol, Bordeaux

In the annals of Bordeaux, each vintage bears its own narrative; the story of 2013 was one undoubtedly challenged by Mother Nature. Yet, the 2013 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin speaks eloquently of the resilience and mastery that comes from this distinguished terroir in Pomerol, where meticulous viniculture triumphed over climatic whimsy.

Grace Under Pressure: A Vintage Narrative

The narrative of 2013 across Pomerol was not scripted for the faint-hearted viticulturist. Rain and cool temperatures brought havoc, yet Chateau Gazin embraced this adversity with finesse. By exercising precise and selective harvesting, the estate ensured only the most promising Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon berries contributed to their craft. This is a testimonial to patient and judicious winemaking amidst nature's trial.

Articulating Terroir with Elegance

The 2013 Chateau Gazin showcases a medium-bodied structure that is both firm and refreshingly vibrant. It dons a bouquet replete with truffles and dark cherries, subtly interleaved with refined undertones of wet earth—a dialogue between fruit and terroir articulated with sophistication. On the palate, the wine unravels a textured tapestry of plush tannins, carrying hints of cassis and spice, culminating in an elegantly persistent finish.

This particular vintage finds merit in its capacity to present an authentic Pomerolian experience under less-than-ideal circumstances. This makes the 2013 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin a compelling narrative for fine wine investors seeking out vintages that epitomise the harmony of human endeavour with nature's caprice.

Investing in Resilience

For connoisseurs and investors alike, it is these storied vintages that often hold unexpected value. The 2013 Chateau Gazin stands as an exemplar of the diligence required to coax elegance from exigency. Herein lies an opportunity not just to invest but to possess a piece of Bordeaux's living history—one that promises to be an intriguing conversational pièce de résistance in any discerning collection.

Capturing the essence of Pomerol with grace and finesse even under taxing conditions, the 2013 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin represents not just survival but triumph—making it one of those select wines worthy of attention for their pedigree and poise in defiance of adversity.

The 2013 Gazin has a light, tertiary woodland-scented bouquet with rather broody black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with red berry, cedar and graphite on the entry, dry tannins with some hardness towards the finish that will hopefully soften with bottle age. Disjointed at the moment, leave this a couple of years because there is presence here. It just needs its component parts to knit together and hopefully they will with bottle age, hence the plus sign next to my score.
