The 2002 Meursault Caillerets from Domaine Coche-Dury, Burgundy, France

Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Coche-Dury's reputation for producing some of the region's most exquisite white wines is a tale weaved into the fabric of viticulture. The 2002 Meursault Caillerets is a testament to the domaine’s command of craft, delivering an experience resonant with the specificity of its vintage.

Eloquence of Terroir: A Distinguished Vintage

While the general traits of Meursault are often recognised by their striking balance between richness and acidity, it is the unique narrative of each vintage that engenders the myriad for connoisseurs. The year 2002 was marked by a growing season with near-ideal conditions in Burgundy – mild spring frost sending an early shudder through vines, succeeded by a summer that teetered delicately between warmth and rain, ensuring a crop with both health and complexity.

The 2002 Meursault Caillerets emerges as a peerless embodiment of this vintage. It 'sings' with an aromatic bravura; a symphony composed of ripe orchard fruits and toasted nut elegance, laced with an almost ethereal mineral linearity that only the Caillerets vineyard can instil. On the palate, it cascades across the senses – assertive yet finessed – melding profound depth with a precision that strikes one as meticulously delineated.

A Domaine's Mastery Revealed

In their handling of this vintage, Domaine Coche-Dury has demonstrated not merely proficiency but artistry. This creation stands as an investment in pleasure as much as it does in value, promising development at a contemplative pace for those patient enough to cellar and savor its evolution.

With restrained yields and deft vinification at play, the 2002 Meursault Caillerets has blossomed into a collector's centre-piece. Its scarcity buttressed by unwavering demand means seeking this wine out now – ahead of inevitable appreciation – is both judicious for your cellar and auspicious for your portfolio.

Upon reflection, considering this storied vintage; its persistent finish leaves an indelible impression not soon forgotten. For investors poised to capture not just a storied bottle but an unrepeatable moment in oenological time, the 2002 vintage from Domaine Coche-Dury represents a pinnacle of potential.

Coche’s 2002 Meursault Caillerets, produced from a parcel planted in 1994, explodes from the glass with green apples and a myriad of spices. This plump, meaty, deep wine is crammed with honeyed minerals, toast, and creamed pears. It is concentrated, extremely well-balanced, and reveals an impressively long, fruit-filled finish. Projected maturity: 2005-2014. Note: Jean-Francois Coche labels five different wines as “Meursault,” the Vireuils-Dessous, Vireuils-Dessus, La Barre, Narvaux, and from an as-yet-unnamed parcel (it may be called “Chaumes”) on the top of the Meursault hill that belongs to his son Raphael. His US importer, Kermit Lynch, generally purchases only the Meursault from the Narvaux vineyard, but there is no way of knowing which “Meursault” is being purchased from the gray market.
