2012 Meursault Genevrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury, Burgundy, France

Uncloaking the singular elegance of the 2012 vintages from Burgundy impels me to shine a light on a particularly resplendent bottle: the 2012 Meursault Genevrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury. This esteemed producer, nestled in the heart of one of Burgundy's most distinguished appellations, yielded a vintage that has gracefully matured into a captivating treasure.

Unveiling the Quintessence of Terroir

The growing season of 2012 was marked by climatic dichotomies, which presented a true test of viticultural acumen at Domaine Coche-Dury. Amidst the oscillation of nature's whims, this Meursault Genevrieres dances a delicate ballet, encapsulating the resilience and adaptability of the vines. The wine flourishes with an intricate balance; its poised sophistication is a testament to the meticulous care that nurtured its evolution.

A Collectable Pinnacle from a Challenging Year

Wine investors will appreciate that the restraint exhibited by 2012 mirrors what one might find in Bordeaux's most contemplative years. Yet, here amongst the noble slopes of Meursault, there is an intriguing tension: bright citrus and noble oak intertwine with an undercurrent of minerality — a profound expression shaped by the hands of lesser-experienced vignerons could have easily faltered.

This particular bottle from Domaine Coche-Dury articulates itself with notes of stone fruit and toasted hazelnut that invite connoisseurs to delve deeper. The precise acidity lends longevity, suggesting that this 2012 Meursault Genevrieres still harbours potential for further nuances to unfurl.

Conclusion

As an influential voice in the fine wine investment landscape, I assert without reservation that the 2012 Meursault Genevrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury warrants particular attention. Its brilliant translucence belies a formidable structure, rendering it one of the most intriguing offerings from an otherwise challenging year. It resides as both a wise and delightful addition to any discerning collection or portfolio.

The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières has a bold, intense bouquet laden with lime flower, candied orange peel, limestone and fig aromas that soar from the glass. The palate is extremely well balanced with notes of apricot and white peach, later a smudge of marmalade and an almost exotic finish that could revivify the most fatigued of mouths. Wow. This might be Coche-Dury’s most compelling contribution to the vintage. This is nothing short of stunning - grand cru in all but name.
