Domaine Coche Dury Meursault Rougeot

2012 Meursault Rougeot

By Domaine Coche-Dury

2012 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes from Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Burgundy, France

At the pinnacle of Burgundian chardonnay, the character of the 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes from Domaine des Comtes Lafon stands testaments to an extraordinary vintage, one that challenged both vine and vigneron. A season marked by erratic weather transitions, 2012 saw a reduction in yield but a concurrent elevation in grape quality, leading to wines with exceptional concentration and poise.

Investment Worthy: A Collection Cornerstone

The year's climatic pendulum swung from frostbitten spring to summer drought, focusing the terroir's energy into fewer clusters of fruit. As a result, this remarkable 2012 release displays an enriched texture coupled with an alignment of complex aromatics that investors will find compelling from a maturation standpoint. The Domaine des Comtes Lafon imprint on the vintage is unmistakable, ensuring this Meursault's position as a magnetic candidate for both connoisseurs and investors alike.

Vintage Character: Crafting Excellence Through Adversity

The intensity of the vintage is transmuted into a spectacle of layered finesse in the glass; notes of toasted almond and ripe stone fruits enveloped by an elegant smoky minerality that echoes the charm of its namesake vineyard. The palate maintains a balance between roundness and precision—a ballet of creaminess cut through by a vein of lively acidity. The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes thus expresses its lineage and climatic endurance with measured grace.

An exquisite harmony revealed over time imbues this wine with promising longevity, fuelled further by its limited availability. The scarcity, married with quality, presents Domaine des Comtes Lafon’s storied offering as an artefact of singular heritage—one that discerning investors would be prudent to secure.

As this 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes calmly matures in bottle, it promises to unfurl its intricate facets over the coming decades. Its journey from seedling in tumultuous weather upholds the veneration that Burgundy continues to command globally, solidifying this particular vintage's place amongst the upper echelons of a wine portfolio that values rarity blended with exquisite taste.

In sum, this 2012 jewel from the renowned Meursault Charmes vineyard represents not simply an investment in wine but an investment in the resilience and passion encapsulated within each bottle—infused with a year's struggle and triumph on the storied slopes of Burgundy's famed Côte de Beaune.

The 2013 Meursault Les Rougeots has a very pure bouquet with subtle scents of tangerine, lemon curd, limestone and yellow flowers. The palate is spicy, racy on the entry with plenty of spice racing around the finish. This is a feisty Rougeots cut from the same cloth as the Genevrières ’12, with plenty of depth and concentration.
