The Quintessence of Terroir and Time

A season hallmarked by its early warmth followed by cooler, temperate days permitted the grapes of Bonnes-Mares to attain optimal ripeness with an exquisite balance of acidity. It is this harmonious climatic interplay that is so intricately woven into the tapestry of the 1995 vintage from Domaine Comte de Vogue.

Unfolding Complexity and Elegance

In its youth, the 1995 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru presented a vibrancy and tautness suggestive of its longevity, yet now, with maturity's grace, it pirouettes eloquently across the palate. One is greeted by a cornucopia of dark cherries and ripe blackberries ensconced in a velvety robe of tannins. Earthy undertones of truffle and forest floor provide a sturdy backdrop to the fruit's ballet, while whispers of spice contribute verve to this Burgundian symphony.

Medium-to-dark ruby colored, the spectacularly aromatic Bonnes Mares explodes out of the glass with spiced apples, dark cherries and cola scents. Chewy, powerful, polished and intensely structured, this full-bodied wine is packed with wild berries, plums and red fruits. Drink 2003-2012+. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided.
