A Vintage of Nuance and Terroir Expression

With climate playing its fateful hand exquisitely, the 2000 vintage in Burgundy was blessed with a balanced growing season that transposed into wines of extraordinary finesse. The Chevalier Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive captures that very essence; its complexity woven into each sip, reflecting unique facets of the acclaimed terroir.

The influence of a well-regulated summer and a typically Burgundian autumn is evident in the poised interplay of acidity and ripeness within this Chardonnay. The nose is a symphony of opulent fruit aromas laced with an earthy minerality intrinsic to the limestone soils of the region.

Investment Worthy Elegance

On the palate, this vintage unfolds layers of buttery brioche, toasted almonds, and delicate citrus zest notes, signifying the hands of Domaine Leflaive and their meticulous oak ageing processes. This showcase of expertise firmly places the 2000 Chevalier Montrachet within the realm of wines worthy of serious investment.

Savour now, or cellar judiciously for another decade; this Chevalier Montrachet is fashioned to evolve sumptuously with time. The 2002 Meursault Perrieres sports a deep straw color, perhaps just a bit deeper than I would like. It has an attractive bouquet of dried honey, beeswax, honeysuckle and damp straw with fine delineation. The palate is nicely balanced with a spicy opening and good weight, although it lacks a little finesse on the powerful, burly finish and I would have liked to have seen more Perrieres minerality. If I had bottles in my cellar, I would be inclined to drink them over the next decade. Tasted September 2013.
