2009 Meursault les Perrieres

By Domaine des Comtes Lafon

2007 Chevalier Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive, Burgundy, France

The esteemed 2007 vintage from Domaine Leflaive showcases a formidable Chevalier Montrachet that admirably mirrors the characteristic excellence of this stellar plot in Burgundy. Keen investors and aficionados alike are well aware of the climatic and terroir-specific nuances that imbue each year's offering with distinctive traits. It is these subtleties that elegantly elevate the 2007 Chevalier Montrachet to a league of its own.

Eloquence of the Earth: The 2007 Vintage Expression

A year marked by a blend of challenges and triumphs, 2007 was no ordinary vintage in the wine calendar. Burgundy saw an early start to the growing season, followed by a cooler, wetter August, but finished strongly with a September that provided both sunlight and serenity; enabling the chardonnay grapes to reach their quintessence of maturation.

The resulting wine is an exemplar of balance and complexity. A noteworthy acidity underpins the 2007 Chevalier Montrachet, where one can discern a symphony of ripe stone fruits, kissed by oak and stirring minerality. A faint trace of vanilla from delicate barrel ageing melds seamlessly with toasted brioche nuances, crafting a finish as enduring as it is ethereal.

An Investment Worth Pursuing

The cellaring potential of Domaine Leflaive's 2007 offering is indisputable. As time gracefully unfolds its layers, investors can expect an evolution in bottle that can only enrich their portfolios. This wine will continue to reward those who wait with increased complexity and aromatic maturity.

The constrained yields from Domaine Leflaive in this season render the 2007 Chevalier Montrachet an admirable candidate for investment. With its current trajectory in both market demand and critical acclaim, it holds a promise of value appreciation for connoisseurs and collectors alike.

In sum, the 2007 Chevalier Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive stands out as an emblematic creation of its vintage. Beyond its delectable sensory bouquet, it represents an oenophilic journey through the climatic tapestry of Burgundy. An asset of this calibre speaks not only to those who seek gustatory pleasure but equally to those astute in their pursuit of vinous investments.

The 2009 Meursault Perrieres is stunningly beautiful. It shows fabulous intensity and grace from start to finish. Suggestions of mint and white flowers give the wine a higher register that keeps the wine light on its feet despite its considerable richness. The Perrieres is intensely perfumed from start to finish, with layers of crushed rocks that wrap around the palate on the textured vivid close. Anticipated maturity: 2016+. Dominique Lafon's 2009s are just as stunning from bottle as they were when I tasted them in cask earlier this year. Lafon is one of the most thoughtful growers in Burgundy. Along with a group of his colleagues, Lafon is among the producers who has basically re-examined every aspect of the way he makes wine in response to the problem of premature oxidation. today's wines spend more time on their lees, but that is just one of many changes that have taken place here over the last few years. Except as noted, I tasted the 2009s from bottle. The 2009 Charmes, Perrieres and Montrachet were bottled in May, 2011. I also tasted all of the 2010s from barrel. The Meursault, Clos de la Barre and Goutte d-Or weren't showing well, while the Meursault premier crus and the Montrachet were all sublime.
