Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 1990 La Romanée Grand Cru, here labeled Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, has a light ruby core with some aging on the rim. The bouquet is quite attractive and clean adorned with strawberry, star anise and just a smear of orange sorbet. It opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious opening. The acidity is nicely judged here, just a touch of spiciness developing with age, flanked by white pepper and marjoram. It is quite austere for a 1990 but in a positive sense: more linear than many from this vintage. This is a decent La Romanée, a relief after the deplorable 1989, and it should continue drinking well for at least a decade. Tasted June 2015.
