Pedigree and Precision: The Essence of 2012

The vintage in question, exceptional by all accounts, bears the imprimatur of a season defined by both challenges and triumphs. A cool spring gave way to a tempered summer, endowing the Pinot Noir berries with a concentrated boldness, rarely matched in other years. This cultivated a unique canvas upon which Jean-Marie Fourrier articulated his vinous vision—a canvas rife with complexity and potential for the astute wine investor.

Terroir at its Core: A Tapestry Woven with Delicacy

The Griottes Chambertin terroir, a small yet celebrated parcel within Gevrey-Chambertin, blessed this wine with its distinctive profile. In much veneration among collectors and enthusiasts, Domaine Fourrier's meticulous vines capture the plenitude of this land. The 2012 vintage is no different—expressing articulate notes of dark cherry and earthy undertones, which give way to an alluring hint of spice and structured tannins.

Upon tasting, one finds a resounding depth girded by a lattice of minerality that is the lifeblood of Burgundian terroir. As this Grand Cru gracefully ages, its inherent complexity becomes ever more pronounced, promising a tapestry that continues to unfold over time.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2012 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras comes sprinting out of the blocks with macerated black cherries, blueberry and raspberry fruit interlaced with sous-bois and woodland scents. I appreciate the joie-de-vivre expressed in this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with some new oak to be fully subsumed, but there is impressive substance here with a spicy tang on the long finish. This has no intention of growing up to be a subtle wine - and it is all the better for it. Tasted June 2015.
