By Domaine Dujac

2013 Chambertin from Domaine Dujac, Burgundy, France

Delving into the nuanced and venerable world of Burgundy, one is often drawn to the prestigious Chambertin appellation. The 2013 vintage from Domaine Dujac offers an embodiment of the site's quintessence, despite the challenges that year brought forth.

A Vintage Against the Odds

The 2013 vintage in Burgundy was a test of resilience and mastery. Unpredictable weather patterns placed extra demands on the vignerons, with a late flowering season leading to a smaller harvest. However, the meticulous care by Domaine Dujac distinguishes this 2013 Chambertin as one of patience and expertise—a treasure trove for fine wine investors seeking pinnacle expressions of Burgundian terroir.

Savouring the Subtleties of a Stoic Year

The dualities of the challenging season are elegantly counterbalanced in this wine’s profile. On the nose, layers unfold with an array of dark berries and earthy undertones. The palate carries through with precision; red fruit intertwined with a discreet spice that speaks to its noble lineage and composed upbringing in oak. Remarkably, this vintage stands with gentle tannins and an acidic backbone that supports its ageing potential—one would be remiss not to consider it for long-term investment purposes.

Notably, the moderate yields of 2013 have imparted concentrated flavours while guarding against overbearing extraction, resulting in a balanced Chambertin endowed with both grace and gravitas.

In Investing Vernacular

For connoisseurs and investors alike, the 2013 Chambertin from Domaine Dujac is a testament to triumph over adversities that marked its inception. Reflecting on this wine's journey from budbreak to bottle, one cannot help but acknowledge the veritable craftsmanship imbued in every sip—an investment-worthy marvel from an arduous Burgundian vintage.

The subtleties captured within this 2013 encapsulation, alongside its promising evolution in years to come, mark it as one worthy of note for portfolios diversifying into storied vintages with a tale to tell. An alluring proposition for fine wine enthusiasts seeking both rarity and refinement—the 2013 Chambertin from Domaine Dujac is undeniably a rewarding consideration.

The 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru has a more backward bouquet than the Romanée-Saint-Vivant '13 from Dujac at the moment, the fruit a little darker with blackberry and raspberry intertwined with stony notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a masculine structure, real backbone here with great precision and freshness on the finish and a long saline aftertaste. Excellent.
