2014 Corton Renardes from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France

In the broad tapestry of Burgundian excellence, the 2014 Corton Renardes from Domaine Leroy occupies a place of considerable reverence. The year 2014 was recognised for its comparatively cool yet long growing season—factors which have bestowed upon this wine a temperament blending the vigour of youth with an understated wisdom.

A Testament to the Conjuncture of Season

Burgundy connoisseurs will recall that 2014 was marked by a serene autumn that rescued an otherwise erratic summer. It's against this backdrop the Corton Renardes from Domaine Leroy distinguishes itself—a harmonious achievement rising above climatic caprices. Notably in regard to wine investment, this tranquil maturity renders the 2014 vintage a decidedly astute addition to any refined portfolio.

Defining Character in Every Sip

The uniqueness of the 2014 vintage is encapsulated through its vividly expressive terroir-driven profile. The generosity of ripe red berries marries harmoniously with earthy undertones, resembling a painter who simultaneously respects the raw canvas while enhancing it with masterstrokes of colour. Such balance is especially apparent on the palate—an initially vivacious fruit gives way to an intricate dance of minerality and tannins, each step choreographed by the region's time-honoured savoir-faire.

My personal tasting confirmed what one might anticipate from such a revered maker as Domaine Leroy: superlative concentration without forsaking grace—a leitmotif of their reputable winemaking paradigm. Meanwhile, the 2014 Corton Renardes unfurls across the tongue with an elongated finish that speaks of its cellar-worthy credentials and poised evolution.

Unique amongst peers, the 2014 Corton Renardes stands out as a testament not only to Domaine Leroy's singular philosophy but also to an extraordinary vintage calibrated by nature's own ebb and flow. Investors looking for a wine that eloquently bridges immediate pleasure and long-term appreciation will find much to admire here—the 2014 embodies an investment as sound in structure as it is exultant in taste.

The 2014 Corton Renardes Grand Cru already has an intriguing bouquet that is forming in barrel, a little more open at the moment with dark berry fruit, a touch of Earl Grey and bay leaf. It is nicely defined, somehow effortless. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, nice and saline in the mouth, very harmonious and silky smooth, so much so that you might think this was Côtes de Nuits. Lovely.
