Terroir in a Glass: The Singular Nature of the Vintage

The 2005 Vosne les Brulees is an intricate tapestry of Vosne-Romanée's signature perfumed richness combined with a stunning precision redolent of the year's specific triumphs. The growing season of 2005 was marked by ideal conditions—a temperate summer with well-timed rains fostered an unhurried maturation of grapes, allowing for a harmonious development of sugars and tannins.

In this glass, one discerns a constellation of dark cherry and ripe raspberry, lifted by ethereal hints of violets and spice. The palate is embraced by robust yet impeccably structured tannins—a testament to the deft craftsmanship at Domaine Leroy. There’s an engaging complexity to this wine, much attributed to the meticulous selection of fruit from the ‘les Brulees’ parcel—with its well-drained soils capturing both warmth and finesse—an embodiment, indeed, of its namesake 'the burnt ones'.

Domaine Leroy's 2005 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brulées is a brillant young wine, though it's still the better part of a decade away from even early maturity. Unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of black cherries, wild berries, smoked meats, espresso roast, blood orange and exotic spices, framed by a deft touch of new oak, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with an immensely concentrated core of fruit, elegantly muscular structuring tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, carnal finish.
