2003 Comtes de Champagne Rosé from Taittinger

Ambrosial and deeply complex, the 2003 Comtes de Champagne Rosé from Taittinger boasts an intricacy inherent to a time when European heatwaves were more an anomaly than the norm. Planted deep in chalky soils, the vines have drawn out a mineral depth that sets this vintage apart and rewards discerning wine investors with an engaging array of textures and tastes.

Medley of Specificity: Vintage, Producer, and Terroir

Hold a glass of this wine to the Provence sunlight and you'll witness an intense raspberry-pink hue - a homage to the extremely sunny year that blessed this vintage. The 2003 heatwave threw many producers across France, but Taittinger's savoir-faire helped wrestle an astonishing elegance from potential disaster. Furthermore, their precise blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir displays an investment in quality that is nothing short of outstanding.

Taittinger is renowned for creating expressive sparkling wines that mirror their exceptional vineyards. This particular harmony of Pinot Noir dominance from the Marne's finest crus resounds throughout this inaugural Rosé récolte. However, what truly distinguishes the 2003 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is not its illustrious producer but rather the year that bore it.

Epitome of Elegance: A Glimpse into the Investment Par Excellence

The perception of the 2003 vintage has evolved over time - dismissed at first in some quarters for its potentially over-ripe tendencies - now, nearly two decades on, a second look reveals its maturing beauty. The intoxicating melding of early summer strawberries with late autumn raspberries, propelled by an effervescence denoting grace and assurance marks this champagne as one worth consideration by any astute wine investor.

2003 Comtes de Champagne Rosé from Taittinger triumphs in its commitment to reflect not just a brand or style but a compelling tapestry of vintage, weathering and refinement. It makes a resounding statement that captivates the senses in each precious sip and proves itself as a wine investment worth savouring across seasons.

This not solely an emotional adventure into the world of bubbling rosé but it serves to be an exceptional addition to one's fine wine investment portfolio, being both accessible now and holding promise for further maturity. It is indeed an investable delight combining serious return potential with unmatched tactile pleasure.

The 2003 Rose Comtes de Champagne flows from the glass with layers of sweet, perfumed fruit. With some time in the glass, the wine fills out with superb elegance and precision. This generous, weighty Champagne is probably best enjoyed with food. As delicious as this is today, I would be tempted to age a few bottles in the cellar. Only the price is an obstacle. In 2003 the Comtes de Champagne Rose is 70% Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims, which includes 12% still Pinot juice, and 30% Chardonnay from Cotes des Blancs, all from grand cru villages. This is Lot: L7377WA01600, disgorged November 19, 2007 Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. Taittinger is one of Champagne’s historic houses. The estate is best known for its Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne, a wine that has a strong track record of developing beautifully in bottle, often for several decades after release. While a few bottles in the range aren’t quite up to par, in aggregate this is an impressive showing for a house of this scale. Importer: Kobrand Corp., Purchase, NY; tel. (914) 253-7756
