1997 Screaming Eagle from Screaming Eagle, California, USA

The 1997 Screaming Eagle offers a testament to the mastery of viticulture and winemaking in the Napa Valley. This remarkable vintage highlights what was a defining year for Californian wines, setting the stage for the splendiferous performance of this fine American Cabernet-based blend.

California's Shining Star, an Invaluably Complex Proposition

The Screaming Eagle winery is celebrated for producing some of the most exclusive wines, but it’s in the 1997 Screaming Eagle where the true genius asserts itself. The synergy created from cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc on the alluvial soils of Oakville embellishes the unique terroir-driven personality exhibited in this wine.

Every sip of this prestigious vintage is an indulgence; rewarding its drinker with profound layers of ripe blackberry fruits, cassis, and hints of cocoa that evoke a sense of depth and complexity. The seamless integration of intense flavours, breathtaking concentration, and compellingly balanced acidity makes an impressive performance that leaves a lasting impression.

A Vintage Redefined: Exceptional Quality and Elegance

The climatic conditions of 1997 added a distinctive touch to these fine wines from the USA. A mild winter leading to an early bud break was followed by ideal conditions throughout the growing season. This resulted in an early harvest yielding perfectly ripened grapes which have been immaculately transformed into the masterpiece known as 1997 Screaming Eagle.

This wine exudes a profound elegance and finesse after years of cellaring, barely contained by a structure reminiscent of a well-tailored haute couture gown. Tannins are present but integrated superbly, allowing the opulent fruit notes to take centre stage while an oaken undercurrent adds a certain gravitas to the experience.

In conclusion, the 1997 Screaming Eagle encapsulates a synthesis of hard work and experts' dignified handling of nature’s generosity. It serves as a potent reminder of how fine wine not only mirrors a location and year but also has the potential to be a most rewarding investment, especially when one acknowledges the grandeur of this rightly celebrated Californian specimen. Truly, a vintage well-worth seeking for any sophisticated investor in fine wines.

It doesn't get any better than 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon, a perfect wine. Representing the essence of cassis liqueur intermixed with blackberries, minerals, licorice, and toast, this full-bodied, multi-dimensional classic is fabulous, with extraordinary purity, symmetry, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. It has the overall equilibrium to evolve for nearly two decades, but it will be hard to resist upon release. Anticipated maturity: now-2020. Tel. (707) 944-0749; Fax (707) 944-9271
